With Crypto Fight Night, founders want combat sports to humanize crypto leaders and make them accessible to the public.
On Dec. 6, the crossover boxing championship goes to Dubai for its 6th edition, moving on from London and Singapore where it was held earlier this year. Besides watching crypto celebrities in high-stakes combat, revelers will network ringside with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and investors.
“You can consider it [Crypto Fight Night] as an ice breaker for the uninitiated, and a means to enable a spirit of freer mingling and networking,” CFN founder Rahul Suri said in an interview with Cryptonews, adding:
“We are doing this in a competitive yet fun way, so that more people are encouraged to network and learn about the industry and connect with the many stakeholders involved, including KOLs [key opinion leaders] and investors.”
Suri said technological advances “often make it difficult for mainstream consumers to engage, cutting off a vast majority of people from being able to connect with the sector.”
“Events such as Crypto Fight Night (CFN) help bridge this gap, making top crypto leaders accessible and showing their human side to their followers,” he detailed.
Launched in 2021, CFN has shown some ability to attract top crypto personalities. Crypto rivals Tron founder Justin Sun and Ethereum cofounder Vitalik Buterin are expected to bring a blast of star power to the CFN schedule once their match is confirmed.
Meanwhile, the “King of Solana” title bout between crypto investors and influencers Ansem and BitBoy is a confirmed highlight of the night in Dubai.
Crypto Fight Night To Host Tron vs Ethereum Match?
Sun sent tongues wagging when he tweeted his challenge to Buterin from the sidelines of the Singapore edition of the Crypto Fight Night on Sept. 19.
The challenge has sparked comparisons to the aborted cage fight between X boss Elon Musk and Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Musk looked to physically settle scores with Zuckerberg for launching Threads, a text-based rival to X. For his part, Zuckerberg was still smarting from the loss of a Meta satellite to a SpaceX launch failure in 2016. The tech titans never made good on the challenge which observers have since written off as trolling.
Justin Sun was quick to point out that his challenge on Buterin was not a case of bad blood. “It’s all about that chill vibe, no beef, no bruises—just straight-up community energy, what do you think?” he tweeted.
Sun and Buterin have given us a fair share of mutual trolling. Buterin has given a controversial analogy of “Nazi Bitcoin” and “Japanese Tron” ganging up against “Jewish Ethereum.”
In just one of the many jabs between the crypto wonderkids, Sun promised a monument in memory of Buterin the day Tron overtakes Ethereum in market capitalization. Ethereum is the second largest crypto asset after Bitcoin, with a total market cap of $317.7 billion. Tron sits at number 10, boasting a total market value of $13.6 billion.
“As to why Sun challenged Buterin, we couldn’t tell for sure, although we aren’t surprised,” CFN founder Suri told Cryptonews.
“The electrifying atmosphere, the sight of so many adrenaline-charged crypto enthusiasts, and the general sense of competitiveness would tempt anyone who enjoys combat sports to put on their gloves and step in for a four-round duel.”
At the Dubai edition, entrepreneur Dawood Savage, networking specialist Keith Berry, web3 influencer Krown, and Hedged Hog, a trained boxer, will be among the high-profile figures to battle it out in more competitive bouts. Ansem comes to the ring months after being challenged to a $10 million crypto bet fight by kickboxer and influencer Andrew Tate.
CFN also serves as a grassroots slant aimed at young talent, with activities ranging from amateur to professional-level bouts. Away from combat, revelers will listen to keynote addresses on crypto events and watch ringside entertainment.
Buterin Riducules Tron as a ‘Distant Crazy Uncle’
It is safe to say Sun and Buterin are not each other’s number-one fans. Ethereum is the pioneering smart contract blockchain and leading decentralized apps ecosystem. Tron has often been called an “Ethereum killer” for its higher speed and transaction throughput.
However, Buterin has refused to acknowledge Tron as a worthy competitor.
“Like, from any serious point of view, any flaw that ETH has from the perspective of BTC community values, Tron has 10 times more,” he tweeted. “And yet, ETH is often a mortal enemy, and yet, Tron, at least psychologically, is viewed as a distant crazy uncle it’s cool to be kinda friends with.”
Sun and Buterin are two of the most beloved individuals in crypto. Articulate and innovative, they are both men of ideas and speak up for progressive causes, including the release of Telegram founder Pavel Durov.
Given their long sparring history, Sun may have thought of his opposite number as a soft target. Buterin is yet to confirm his availability for the challenge.
The Motivation for Crypto Fight Night
Rahul Suri and his partners Jai and RookieXBT are also long-time boxing fans. The Crypto Fight Night adapts their love of the sport to the futuristic edge of crypto.
“As someone from the crypto VC space, I wanted to build a space where entrepreneurs, investors, and enthusiasts could convene outside the formal structure of most industry events,” he stated.
Suri claimed that Crypto Fight Night, which happens over a week, really, is clocking millions of views regularly and constantly in talks to get top-tier streamers aboard. CFN fighters are from a wide demographic draw, united only by their love for crypto and the sport.
Tech Figures are Embracing Athletic Culture
CFN is gaining prominence at a time when tech titans like jiu-tsu practitioner Zuckerberg and high-profile figures in crypto are flexing their athletic side. According to Suri:
“Most of the crypto celebrities and entrepreneurs have come to respect personal fitness and transformative health practices, and it is only natural for them to get the adrenaline kick while watching a CFN match.”
CFN is endorsed by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and has been granted the Crypto Belt title.
Crypto Fight Night fighters are a diversified range, drawn from the world’s top key opinion leaders as well as amateur boxers. The boxers are tied to pre-fight regulations and months-long training regimens prescribed by the WBC.
“This makes our fights fun to watch without them losing the seriousness of competitive boxing,” Suri said. “The result is a relatively informal and authentic sporting event that the crypto community can call its own.”
“Overall, you’ll find that all of them take the competition seriously, fully aware that they have to be mentally and physically prepared to entertain the audience in the true spirit of combat sports,” he explained.
